David L. Grinnell of Palm Springs, CA has accepted an offer to join the Grinnell Family Association of America Board of Directors. He will be filling the slot of recently-retired Chuck Ketchum.
David was born in Newport, Rhode Island, a place steeped in historic significance. From its founding in 1639 and its uniting with Providence and Portsmouth in 1644 as the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Newport has played home to many Grinnell family ancestors and together with Portsmouth, was the stomping ground of our common ancestors, Mathew Greenell and Rose French.
David graduated from Bryant College in Providence, RI with a degree in Business Administration and has worked in both the for-profit and the not-for-profit world.
David enjoys membership in several genealogical, lineage societies including the Order of First Families of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations with Mathew Grinell as the immigrant; the National Society of Sons of Colonial New England with Matthew Grinnell, born in East Greenwich, RI 1662 as the ancestor; The Guild of Colonial Artisans and Tradesmen with Matthew Grinnell born 1607 as a “malster”; The Descendants of Sheriffs and Constables of Colonial and Antebellum America with Mathew Greenell as a Constable, Town of Portsmouth for 1676, 1681 and 1682; The National Society Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution with Robert Grinnell born 1756 in Jamestown, RI as the Patriot Ancestor and to cap it all off, The Order of the Founders and Patriots of America with Mathew Grinell as the Founder and Robert Grinnell as the Patriot.
Also, through Robert Jason Grinnell Jr.'s wife's Peckham line, Mr. Grinnell is a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants with the Pilgrim being Richard Warren.
David says he feels blessed to have been born in a place so steeped in colonial history and he is truly honored to have been asked to serve on the Board of the Grinnell Family Association.
